DALLAS, TX – October 8, 2015 – Big Game USA, the leading producer of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) official game footballs, has teamed with the United States Naval Academy to present a “RESPECT” special edition football for the team’s 89th game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015.
The Navy Midshipmen and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are two of the most decorated college football programs in history. Since 1927, the two teams have battled each other on the gridiron for 88 consecutive seasons, making this revered matchup college football’s longest uninterrupted intersectional rivalry.
When the Midshipmen and Fighting Irish battle for the 89th time this Saturday, the two teams will celebrate the occasion with a college football first: they will both wear the exact same gloves, cleats and base-layers “to pay homage to the storied history and brotherhood” between the two schools on gameday. The central theme of this year’s game is RESPECT, and a logo featuring Navy’s double anchor and Notre Dame’s shamrock, along the words “RESPECT, HONOR, TRADITION” was created to honor the matchup. This logo will appear on both team’s base-layers, gloves and cleats.
To match, the same logo also appears on a Special Edition Navy RESPECT Official Game Football from Big Game USA.┬á Each premium pebbled leather football is highlighted by the “RESPECT” logo stamped in silver on one panel, and the Big Game logo on another.
Each “RESPECT” football was custom-tailored by Big Game to the preferences of the Navy quarterbacks. The players chose their exact football by testing several types of leather, lace options and patterns while adhering to NCAA specifications. This is a unique service Big Game offers to both colleges and high schools throughout the country.
A very limited number of official “RESPECT” footballs used during the Navy vs. Notre Dame game this Saturday will be made available to the public via the Big Game online store; however, non-used official “RESPECT” footballs are already available for purchase.
